The obvious tragedy of this photo (and the
360 others like it) is almost eclipsed by the disturbing redactions of the DOD. First they try to keep these images from us in order to soften the blow of the soldiers death, then they rob the man's comrades of their place in the moment. What we have here is a dead man and an army of blank faces. It's like something out of Star Wars. When did we build our own Clone Army?

Back in the US however, individuality re-emerges...
