Slow day...

This morning I was entering the elevator to my office when I realized that I was supposed to have shown up at 8:30 to setup a wireless mic for the board meeting we are hosting. I had dressed nicely because of the board, tried to be on time to work, and now I had already fucked up.

el Jefe: "Shit." [jabs the elevator button a few more times]

For reasons that I can't fully explain, this triggered a work epiphany.

I have no prospect of promotion or of ever getting a raise. I am underpaid.

I thought about this for a while and wondered why I had bothered tucking in my shirt today.

It gets worse. Today I mouthed "You're fucking crazy" at the back of a users head as I followed them down the hall to their computer. While this is an accurate statement of fact, it was also completely unprofessional. For some reason I'm not bottling it up as well as I used to.

After giving it some thought as I stood on a co-workers desk and surveyed the cube world around me(it seems like everyone else is out or knew to take today off), I decided to cut out early and watch a movie at the theatre across the street. I'm going to buy Twizzlers for my lunch, watch Harry Potter, and try to remember that I am full of potential.

at least I got paid today

Comments:
effin' wage slavery. break free, head west.

funny, it sounds like we're working the same job. Since my coworker retired, I asked if I could assume some of her hours to bring me closer to full time. I was told that I am already exceeding the budgeted amount for the position.
Justin's right, head west...

It's what I'm thinking

welcome to the real world... :(

I don't know Christy...you didn't exactly paint a pretty picture of your west coast jobby-job. Head back east! DC is waiting for you with open arms!

Patrick: There's a ton of work up here in DC..lots of IA and all that jazz. Join me and together we will conquer the world!

Actually, Jane, I met with my boss's boss and have been given everything I wanted, mostly. Not nearly the crabby grouch I was a couple of days ago. I mostly think we should just stop working for bleeding-heart causes (women's rights and transit...)

ugghhh... life decisions...
